Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of communication from your office dated 2nd inst "referring to list of claimants whose funds were transferred to me by Major A.K Arnold under date of the 14th Ulto", and stating that H.A. Garrett of St Joseph La has informed your office that Natchez, Miss is the most convenient point for the payment of said claims excepting those of Henry Harrison and Miles.

In reply thereto it is respectfully stated that the communication and information and supposed to refer to 8 claims transferred by me to Major Arnold on the date given, under instructions contained in letter from your office dated February 15 1873, to transfer to him funds belonging to claimants whose residences are outside of my district and in his, the residences of these 8 claimants being noted on the lists as being at Donaldsonville, La, and in this view the 6 claimants interests have been notified that I will be at Natchez, Miss. from May 19 to 24th inclusive, prepared to pay them upon proper identification, and the funds in question will be transferred to me by Major Arnold.
It may be proper to add that notices were mailed to claimants addressed to care of Mr H.A. Garrett, St Joseph, LA.

You are respectfully informed that the papers in the case of your claim for pay, bounty &c, have been referred to me from Washington, D.C. where they were sent for decision, and that I will be in Natchez, Miss, from May 20 to 23rd inclusive prepared to pay you the amount.

Sir:
While at Batton Rouge, La. recently I was informed by Mr
W. M. Jordan, that John Jordan, father of Christopher Jordan (dec'd) late private of Co E 80th US.C.T. had died leaving five children named Fabin, Sarah, Jennett, Columbus and Frank Jordan, and Mr W.M. Jordan exhibited to me papers to be forwarded to your office to establish the claim of these children and prove the death of their father. Funds to pay claims (2) of John Jordan were received by me March 18, 1973, and April 16, 1873.
A woman calling herself Margaret Butler and representing that she was widow of Carolina Butler, formerly of Co H. 84th US.C. Troops, who she stated is dead, also called upon me at Baton Rouge and was advised to forward to your office the papers necessary to prove her statement to be true. Funds to pay Carolina Butler were received by me April 8 1873.

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 1st inst, advising me of the deposit by you of $6510 78/100 with the Treas'r of the US to be placed to my credit with the Asst Treas'r of the U.S in this city, said sum being to pay 36 claims papers pertaining to which were enclosed in Said communication. I return herewith receipt (in duplicate)
