These and other outrages led to the employment of a force under Brigadier Chamberlain, in September, 1855, when some villages of a section of the tribe were destroyed, and their cattle captured. This portion of the tribe then made submission, and even offered to pay grazing taxes for their lower lands. The offer was, however, declined; and the Government of India has no political relations with the tribe, who, strictly speaking, are subjects of Kabool. Since the successful raid into their territory, the general conduct of the tribe has been much more satisfactory, but the separate portions of it are often at feud among themselves.
