DAOOD POOTRA.

The present Nawab of Bahawulpoor is a minor, and his state is under the general control of the Government of India, the local administration being carried out by a political superintendent, assisted by a native council. Under this management the affairs of the state have materially improved, and great progress has been made in canals of irrigation, and other public works, as well as in the important departments of public education and administration of justice. The report on the state for 1869-70 by Major C. Minchin, the superintendent, shows it to be in a highly prosperous condition of material progress, that the sympathy and good will of the people have been secured, and by the time the Nawab has reached his majority, it may be hoped that a solid foundation of lasting prosperity will be laid. In the report the proper education of the young prince is much dwelt upon, and it is to be hoped that measures have been adopted for the purpose.
