[[underline in yellow]]on 20 x 30 semi-absorbent chalk-glue linen.[[/underline]] benzine wiped; underpainted in water color ZW, aureoline, new blue, cadm orange, alizarin madder; then again with tempera zinc white. Broadest tints. It shows the hour of the day and the general proportion and colorite very flat broad. Besides it, the first picture looks far too complicated and detailed, especially, water and sky. See note sheets.- Then lightly varnished the tempera with copal + oil (varnish) + much turps.-

I will not paint sweet and idyllic, as all others do the humid soft atmosphere and delicate sky, naturally, making ladies sigh and poets dream. That is done by all. But see this effect in a new broad colorite of the pale pure yellow of the morning sunlight. and the lighter almost white sky in pale rose and blue unmingled; in strong broad stripe, the lila tree trunks; the loose shadowed violetblue foliage and a rose and full red cottage in the
