Previous to the advent of the Spaniards the last part only of the name was used but having once seen a wagon and ascertained its name and noticing the wide track made by it they designated it thence forward with their own name for road coupled to the one they had just learned for wagon. Never having seen a steamboat until the steamers of the Colorado Steam Navigation Company, or Ives' Explorer, ascended the river, they [[inquired??]] the name of the nondescript and the word "Vapor" was incorporated in, and became part of, their language - And so on with a multitude of words standing for so many new things of which they had previously no knowledge, which they first perverted and then appropriated.
