July 27 Magnificent cool and pleasant weather. Started early in Lab. and worked in it all day.

July 28 Worked all morning in lab. but was interrupted by visit of Kelman who came to show me his enameled wire. He stayed for lunch and in the late afternoon we drove out with the motor car as far as Irvington. 
July 29 A hazy sultry day, but not too hot. Worked in lab. in the morning, in the afternoon drove to New York to see if I could get some cheap tires and a new transmission. Came home in the afternoon. Took Will Andrus to New York.(son of John A. Andrus) Rain then clearing
July 30 Fine clear bright morning. Started early in laboratory. Received a letter from Sakadichi(sic) Hartmann telling me he was

stranted (sic) at East Aurora and wanted some money to go back to New York. Asked me whether I would buy 5 or 10 dollars worth of books. I sent him a check for ten. He is a very interesting fellow.

In the afternoon we drove to the pier to fetch Celine and the children who return from Adirondacks. Remained with Celine till late on the Piazza. Beautiful night. 
July 31 Fine day. worked in laboratory all day. In the afternoon March came here and stayed over night. Next morning drove him to Kingsbridge.
Aug 1 Hazy windless day. All vegetation lacks rain. Dogwood trees have withering leaves. Worked in the lab all morning. In afternoon drove to Kingsbridge to fetch [[underline]]Prof. Burgess[[underline]] of Wisconsin Univ.
