I am rather handicapped in my work on account of index finger having been burnt and is now sore.
Aug 21. This is the 18th anniversary of our landing in New York Aug 21./1889. per S.S. Westerland of the Red Star Line which left Antwerp Aug 10/1889. 
Spent morning writing letters amongst which several for [[underline]] Development & Funding[[/underline]]  Co.

In afternoon worked in lab.
Aug 22. Received by mail copy of Story's patent which seems to cut short some of the claims of my Bakalite application. Still my process is very different and renders it much more

adaptable for practical purposes because I can accomplish in one or two hours what takes Story weeks and months.
Work at motor car with Lewis during intervals I was not busy in lab.
Aug 23. Hard at work in lab all day at intervals helped Lewis remount our engine. [[underline]] Thurlow left to night on a vacation [[/underline]].

Aug 24. Another very busy day in the laboratory with intervals at the engine. Engine assembled now works fine. Strong rain relieves the long drought which has kept on for [[strikethrough]] the last [[/strikethrough]] many weeks. Stayed in barn trying engine until 10 P.M. 
Aug 26 (Sunday) Bright cool weather. Spent morning in laboratory. 
[[strikethrough]] Wrote letters afternoon and late in evening stayed in barn trying new assembled engine & regulating it. Went to bed at about 11 P.M.[[strikethrough]]
