The Hudson never appeared more beautiful than during [[end page]] [[start page]] 53 a sudden thunderstorm which lasted until we reached Poughkeepsie. A rather long and tedious afternoon. Races much delayed. Cornell beat Columbia by only 36" after a valiant race leaving all other competitors way behind. - Many large steam yacht and several monitors from Annapolis. Great night. - Could not get accommodation on observation train so sat along the banks River too wide to see well. Left at about 8 P.M. Train broke down arrived late in Albany.
