164 little glass mixing being done in a hurry. glass and contents were heated so as to harden. I had no trouble in mixing. If I had a sample of much finer aluminum I would have made some paste to spread on a wooden slab. I send you a wooden slab in which I spread a mixture of 3 parts of fine abrasive and one part Bakalite. I took no pain whatever to make a smooth surface. I also send a small disc of Bakalite Emeri which was hardened on glass. As you will notice it sticks to glass so forcibly that in detatching same it took along a chip of glass [[margin - Alundium + Bakelite letter to Saunders sending samples]] [[end page]] [[start page]] 165 It sticks very well to metal as you will see by some of the paste hardened on the cover of a tin box. Preliminary experiments show me that I can make [[underline]] grindstones with a core of wood, [[/underline]] bakalized wood, metal etc. There will be little damage of the Bakalite composition coming off because Bakalite contracts while hardening. If you will send me zinc material I shall make you a sharpening stone made by dipping a wooden stick in the paste If you care to undertake experiments yourself come here and I shall show you how to do and give you the necessary Bakalite.
