My dear Mr. Hart,
     You could not have sent to me a Xmas present that would have given me more pleasure than your kind note of last Sunday eve'g.  It touched with mollifying influence a spot where there has been a painful "sense of goneness", [[strikethrough]] for I am [[/strikethrough]] a sense of hunger for the approval of the connoisseur.
     Your note was doubly grateful because it was so entirely unsolicited and unexpected - and so unreserved.
