At a meeting of artists at Mr. Morses in Feb^r. last as a committee to [?] the merits of professional men availing to join your new [[ap...ation?]], I learn that Mr. Dunlap made some observations and with one or two remarks from you and others [[w...ted?]] in my being rejected, as you must be well aware that such a vote from a self created [[giunta?]] was an assumption of authority not warranted by any character or [[?]] of dignity [[g...?]] or honor consequently was a base calumny a personal insult of your mighty committee upon a solitary individual, who is now thereby part on his defence - one step towards which is to request of you which there is yet a
