It seems to me that very little progress has been made toward getting together this collection and the time is short. I need definition information on [[?]] the space at our disposal - as to how much sight line etc. Would it not be well to get the Collection together somewhere in N.Y. before sending it to Chicago?
In my judgment the Berkeley [[Imident ?]] is too large and fills too much valuable space

for its merit.  I enclose a photograph I found on my table of a very good [[?]], but I cannnot say who sent it to me.  Col [[Loring ?]] mentions one obtainable in the list he sent you.
I am afraid unless the retrospective exhibition is pushed more vigorously that it will make a poor show. An insignificant collection would be worse than none at all. I was surprised to learn that Mr. Hart had only secured six pictures for it. In my judgement the stress should be laid upon obtaining the works of those I have
