Cyanerpes, I (42) February 13, 1958 Barro Colorado [Begin 3-line and squiggle highlighting] There was quite a lot dupicting [?] in a large flock (including 8-10 birds) in a bare tree this evening The usual stuff, e.g., CR, HCN's, & St's; but more frequent than I have ever seen before. Breeding season coming on? [End 3-line and squiggle highlighting] Cyanerpes, I February 10, 1958 Barro Colorado [Begin squiggle highlighting] I caught 2 new Honeycreepers today, a [male symbol], just completing the molt into full nuptial plumage, banded blue left; and a [female symbol], banded light green left. Probably a pair before they were caught. I released them in the aviary. [End squiggle highlighting] The general excitement when they were let loose attracted 3 visitors, an apparently mated pairs first, and then a visitor. [Begin 3-line and squiggle highlighting] When the pair first came, the [male symbol] visitor just did CR, while the [female symbol] visitor did lots of HCN-ing in a moderately alert-looking posture (without CR) This seems to be quite a common arrangement; i.e., [female symbol]'s do seem to give more HCN's than [male symbols]'s. [End 3-line and squiggle highlighting] [Begin squiggle highlighting] When the second visiting [male symbol] showed up, he wandered close to the [male symbol] of the visiting pair, whereupon the latter advanced toward him, in St. with CR and BL (and presumably some Wh N's as well, although I didn't actually hear them) This caused the second [male symbol] to retreat [End squiggle highlighting] [Being 3-line and squiggle highlighting] There was very little hostility by the other capture Blue
