[[glans/glaus?]] [[/insertion]] a pale green gall on cover side of leaf, .15 long or less, [[strikethrough]] slightly [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insertion]] with long white [[/insertion]] pubescence, twice as long as wide, cylindrical ^ [[insertion]] when young [[/insertion]] [[strikethrough]] or [[/strikethrough]] swelled more or less at base ^ [[insertion]] when mature [[/insertion]] ^ [[insertion]] so as to resemble an elongate acorn, [[/insertion]] tip truncate with a minute central nipple. Texture fleshy & solid. Inside smooth. Larva ^ [[insertion]] [[strikethrough]] small [[/strikethrough]] yellowish [[/insertion]] [[strikethrough]] whitish, [[/strikethrough]] with [[strikethrough]] black [[/strikethrough]] ^ [[insertion]] brown [[/insertion]] BB. [[image]] [[blot]] with [[strikethrough]] one [[/strikethrough]] two central [[strikethrough]] tooth [[/strikethrough]] teeth.

[[underline]] Celtidos spina. [[/underline]] A minute generally prostrate pale green pubescent gall .13 long or less, on lower side of leaf, conical, base a little contracted, tip a little  elongated, 2 - 2 1/2 times as long as wide. Inside smooth. Larva [[image]] (?) White, Bb. [[image]] V-shaped. [[symbol]] young [[underline]] C. [[lituns?]] [[underline]] by being hairy.

Aug 26 [[underline]] [Nematus [[/underline]] (gooseberry ] from Davenport). Four have now spun up among the leaves. Examined about 40 larvae of all sizes. Smallest as Aug 21st. Largest have pale green head ^ [[insertion]] not at all [[hairy/heavy?]] (herilsé) [[/insertion]] with a lateral brown black stripe, ^ [[insertion]] commencing at eye spots [[/insertion]] more or less distinctly confluent on the vertex, where it is also confluent with a discordal brown-black spot, covering a pair of [[strikethrough]] forca [[/strikethrough]] ^ [[insertion]] punctures [[/insertion]] transversely arranged ^ [[insertion]] [[strikethrough]] beneath which are [[/strikethrough]] ^ [[insertion]] & beneath these [[blot]] also [[/insertion]] 4 short longitudinal impressed striae ^ [[insertion]] or elongated fovea [[/insertion]] transversely arranged. [[/insertion]] Body of [[underline]] all [[/underline]] green with a rather darker dorsal hue & a lateral paler blue. ^ [[insertion]] above spiracles space below which is paler. [[/insertion]] Some few .50 long & evidently mature. No dark anal plate ^ [[insertion]] in any nor any dark spots. [[/insertion]] Feet green [[strikethrough]] , [[/strikethrough]] except a small brown ^ [[insertion]] with a small [[/insertion]] spot at base of each outside, in the mature specimens. Before the ^ [[insertion]] base of [[/insertion]] front feet, a similar spot or dab.

Aug. 27 [[underline]] Coryli plica. [[underline]] ^ [[insertion]] Cecid. [[/insertion]] On Corylus. A sub globular or oval thickening of the mainrib or one of side-veins of leaf, with a transverse [[strikethrough]] ly [[/strikethrough]] wrinkling of the bordering plate of the leaf, less obvious below, very conspicuous, above ^ [[insertion]] where it completely covers & obliterates the vein. [[/insertion]] Opens by a slit [[underline]] above, [[/underline]] not below. Length .18 - .35, diam. .13 - .16 inch. Densely pubescent below, not above. Larva yellow, Bb [[image]].

White semi-gall on Cephalanthus leaves inhabited by a elongate white Acarus, (several).

[[underline]] Salicis semen. [[underline]] After cutting open many in vain, then saw out of one just cut open two acari. ∴ Gall acaridan, & [[symbol]] inside rough. In another found very numerous ^ [[insertion]] minute [[/insertion]] white acaridan larvae, thrice as long as wide.

Aug. 27. ^ [[insertion]] No 6. Lepidopterous [[/insertion]] Larva in S. aenigma. Length .33, 6 times as long as wide, cylindrical, tapered a little towards tail. Color ^ [[insertion]] rather [[/insertion]] pale fuscous (spins a thread) paler beneath & towards tail. Head polished, fuscous, very minutely rugose, with a few hairs. Body 16-footed, legs normal; joint 1 subpolished rest subopaque, 2 - 11 with a double transverse row each of 4 polished small black tubercles, whence proceeds a hair from each. 12 with a single row of 4 anal plate black, subpolished. [Not bred.]

Aug. 29 Of 28 ^ [[insertion]] quite recent [[/insertion]] [[underline]] Rhois tomatas [[/underline]] examined [[strikethrough]] 3 [[/strikethrough]] 4 had [[underline]] both [[/underline]] antennae [6 or] 5-jointed [[image]], [[strikethrough]] 6 [[/strikethrough]] 5 had one antenna so; all the other antennae [[insertion]] 4 < 5, & 4 + 5 = 6 [[/insertion]] [5 or] 4-jointed, [[image]] 3 being evidently made out of 3 & 4 in the abnormal antennae, which are those of Byroscryptan. Absolutely certain.
