We crossed several water-courses in which were growing cottonwoods ^[[insertion]] [[underline]] Populus [[/underline]] [[/insertion]] and ashes ^[[insertion]] [[underline]] Fraxinus [[/underline]] [[/insertion]] with willows ^[[insertion]] [[underline]] Salix [[/underline]] [[/insertion]] and other moist soil species.
On the mesas in the richer soil especially about the ranches at the lower end of the lake [[underline]] Bigelovia [[/underline]] [[underline]] graveolens [[/underline]] and [[underline]] B. [[/underline]] [[underline]] douglasii [[/underline]] were abundant.
The country has been much traversed by sheep so that nearly all the annual vegetation is gone.
