The banks are grassy slopes with a few [[strikethrough]] live [[/strikethrough]] white oaks ([[underlined]] Quercus lobata [[/underlined]]) and cottonwoods (Populus tremuloides?). At the north end is a small tule ( [[underlined]] Scirpus lacustris occidentalis [[/underlined]]) marsh, and at the southern end a low natural meadow mainly of wild rye ( [[underlined]] Elymus condensatus triticoides [[/underlined]]) The shallow margins of the lake are filled with [[underlined]] Ruppia maritima [[/underlined]] and in some mud-covered sandy soil on the southwest side of the lake a small [[underlined]] Chara [[/underlined]] (no 1146) was found. In the meadow at the south of the lake was collected, [[underlined]] Juncus rugulosus [[/underlined]]. The other plants seen were common. July 2, 1891 Fort Tejon, Kern County, California I collected to-day on the hillsides southwest of of the fort, about the mouth of Johnson's Cr. The slopes here are covered mainly by oaks ([[underlined]] Quercus ^ [[insertion]] douglasii [[/insertion]] [[/underlined]] [caerulea], [[underlined]] Quercus weslizeni [[/underlined]] frutescens), horse-chestnuts ([[underlined]] Aesculus californica [[/underlined]]), poison ivy ( [[underlined]] Rhus diversiloba [[/underlined]]); and bear some juniper ([[underlined]] Juniperus californica [[/underlined]]), live oak ([[underlined]] Quercus chrysolepis [[/underlined]]), .
