[[underlined]] ORGANIZATION [[/underlined]]

The American School of Archaeology in China shall have its headquarters in Peking.
Its purpose shall be the study and publication, in English, of the archaeology, epigraphy, ethnology, art history, religion, literature, languages, folk-lore, institutions, and allied subjects of China.
It shall be controlled by the Committee from the Archaeological Institute of America, and the Smithsonian Institution, who will appoint a Director and approve the appointment of his staff.
The duties of the Director shall be to control funds entrusted to him to carry out the purposes of the School, to maintain relations with the Chinese Government and with foreign scholars, to supervise the training of holders of Fellowships, to edit publications, and to prepare a yearly report of his activities to the Committee in America.
The foreign staff shall consist of members who devote themselves, at the suggestion of the Director to specific work at headquarters and in the field, on the subjects recommended above.
The holders of Fellowships from abroad shall enter into a course of training which will fit them to become members of the staff.  This training will, at the suggestion of the Director, include work in the field or in the library at headquarters.
