Is it not possible that the [[direct?]]
induction may have some effect in producing the direct discharge. Thus [[illustration of upturned wide U shape with + at the right end and a sideways - at the left end]] both ends give a current, [[illustration of an unjoined oval - opening like a gateway at middle of bottom - with arrows pointing down on left and right outsides]] but the one next the + end, or near the jar, will be the stronger and thus produce a current in the same direction, but this will not account for the current in the adverse direction, although it will serve to explain some of the results obtained before Thus when the [[strikethrough]][[?]][[/strikethrough]] ribbon was seperated from the [[xocre?]] at the first side, the effect was very small

Transcription Notes:
It is becoming clear to me as first reviewer, after re-transcribing about 10 panels (5 pages), that nearly all the commas and some other marks were written later in Secretary Henry's MS and may even be by another person, especially because some difficult words (as on page 17 at bottom of left panel) are circled by what is surely the same writing instrument, apparently a pencil -- something I do not suppose Henry himself would have needed to do.
