& fossil fish - Anchovy. [[underlined]] (Engeanlis encrasicolus) [[/underlined]] called by the Greenlanders "Angmarset" - by the Danes, [[insertion]] sild [[/insertion]] [[insertion]] English: [[/insertion]] "Capeline." This fish is about 6 inches long of a bluish-brown color on the back & silver- [[strikethrough]] gray [[/strikethrough]] white on the belly.  These fossils found [[insertion]] 100 miles[[/insertion]] up the fiord [[strikethrough]] with [[/strikethrough]] the entrance to wh. is close by here.

Lt. Governor made me a present of the lot which I consider to be generous on his part for he is well aware of their great value. Saw at Lieut. Gov's also snow-shoes, such as are used in Norway.  They are about 6 feet long 5 inches [[strikethrough]] lo [[/strikethrough]] wide & covered with seal skin.  Made of flat thin piece of board bent up at its forward part thus:
