At two O Clock this PM. the cry of "Sail, O! was heard above. I went up & found that our "Rescue" had been seen. Got out my spy - she was there [[insertion]] yet far off [[strikethrough]] yet far off [[/strikethrough]] [[/insertion]] but indeed coming, with colors flying!
[[strikethrough]] The [[/strikethrough]] Captain B & a Boat's crew have gone to meet her. She will make port to-night.
At 4 O'clock a "Oomiack" - women's boat - came along side [[strikethrough]] Just [[/strikethrough]] rowed by Esquimaux girls. The [[strikethrough]] load [[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] contents [[/insertion]] consisted of 10 girls, 2 babies & 2 mothers - [[insertion]]all [[/insertion]] Esquimaux. They mounted the ladder by aid of the man-ropes that ran down the side of the vessel as quickly as any sailor.

At 8 O'Clock this afternoon, another of our Boats was manned to go out & meet the "Rescue" - to assist in towing her in. At the same time [[underlined]] We [[/underlined]] started - for I of course was one of this crew - a boat was sent off to the town for another Boat crew of the "George Henry" which was at the Ball given [[insertion]] to our American boys [[/insertion]] by the Esquimaux. After getting 2/3ds the way to the "Rescue" [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] Captain Buddington's [[insertion]] crew wh. he had sent [[/insertion]] [[strikethrough]] Boat [[/strikethrough]] met us on the way [[insertion]] the G.H. [[/insertion]] to get help for towing.  Happily we had anticipated his wants.
The excitement of competing the speed of the 2 boats in reaching the "Rescue" was deeply interesting.  It must be understood that I participated [[insertion]] in [[/insertion]] this [[strikethrough]] firing [[/strikethrough]] rowing [[insertion]] to the vessel [[/insertion]] quite as freely as any other.  The distance we made was about 10 miles.
