July 1. Another warm sultry day Lewis made some Solid A with some german cresol. George finds his Mermaid's engine is not reliable and as he wants to go away tomorrow ^[[camping at Croton point]] no time left for fixing up matters. so he will go with motor car tomorrow. Busy all day writing letters and packing trunks and signing checks. Slept poorly. 
July 2. Warm, sultry day. George left here this morning early and bade us goodbye. Fine manly boy, serious mind but inclined to grumble.

Lewis checked our trunks at station then took motor car with Georges belongings and drove him to [[strikethrough]] statio [[/strikethrough]] Croton Point  
This morning had a long conversation with Hooker over 'phone and in opposition to the new plan for cells as before now I insisted very much on necessity of low type of cell. He says will cost $60,000 more but I answer that it may cost them as much more per year to operate the cells. Horribly hot sticky day. Dictated letters all morning. Expecting since yesterday letter announced yesterday by cable from Rutgers relative to Knoll patent which is finally "angelegt". Got it this afternoon. together with a very nice letter of Consul Norton of Clemnitz. Hurried answer to Knoll's claim and sent copies to Vielinghoff Hecht, Meffert & Rutgers.
