thrown the other way and next came our car with front ^[[in pencil]raised way up in air ^[[in pencil]] over the wreck.  Everybody was calm and self possessed and tried to make themselves useful.

Dr. Bancroft whose hand had been smashed badly was trying to make himself useful attending to many small matters.
Sun dispelled clouds - beautiful landscape.  Salinas river on the right.  Mountains in the distance.  Train from Salinas came to fetch us.  Our baggage transferred on it and all along fine. At Metz, Solidad, Salinas many people were at station to see us.
