Oct 11. Very busy all day like usual but not well able to do much. Took [[strikethrough]] 5:30 P.M train to [[/strikethrough]] motor car New York and took supper at University Club [[red underline]] so as to be left alone.[[/red underline]] Met Richard Anthony after hurried supper went to Chemists Club. to meeting of Society Chemical Industry then at meeting of  ^[[NY]] Section of [[strikethrough]] Society A [[/strikethrough]] American Chemical Society. Moody presiding. [[strikethrough]]  Was invited to my [[/strikethrough]] Made motion [[red underline]] for address of Sympathy to family of Loeb. [[/red underline]] A painful effort. under the sad feelings under which I labored. Spoke for a few minutes.

Baskerville read a well prepared address. a [[red underline]] real masterpiece [[red underline]] [[strikethrough]] [[of]] [[/strikethrough]] as a [[?]] summary of [[red underline]] Loeb's [[/red underline]] work in chemistry. [[strikethrough]][[?]][[/strikethrough]] Rosanoff and others there. Very well filled room. I do not remember anymore what I said. Would have liked to do better but had not the mood to prepare myself.
Then introduced resolution requesting NY. board of Health to investigate the case of Ptomaine poisoning on Steamer C.W. Morse during Congress.  ditto the apparently unsanitary condition of the slaughter and factory houses near 40 St. W.
