Dear Sir,
Apologising for my delay, I have now to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 15th of January, last, in which you inform me that the "Northwestern Literary and Historical Society," of Sioux City, Iowa, U.S.A. have been please to honor me by unanimously electing me "An honorary member of the society".

Please convey to the members of your Society the expression of my high appreciation of the honor they have conferred upon me; and it is appreciated all the more, because it comes from a part of the world where, I had no reason to think my name had ever been heard of, nor my official position known.

Enclosed please find my photograph, as you request, and I shall be much gratified to have a photo of yourself, or of President Chester in return.
