Executive Mansion
Monrovia, Liberia, Sept. 17, 1895.

Dear Dr Ross.
Sometime ago I read with interest J.C. Hamilton's "John Brown in Canada", and from its pages I became acquainted with you. You can therefore imagine the pleasure it gives me to read your work "The Memoirs of a Reformer", which you so kindly send me.

All honor to you, John Brown and others whose chivalric efforts brought freedom to the negroes in the United States. ~

"God made Liberty - Man made slavery." The black page in the history of that land of professed Christianity will never - no never be blotted out, nor will rivers made of blood wash it away. - The debt due from the masters to the slaves can be partly paid by the repatriation of the latter to their fatherland.

Wishing you all possible success.
I remain,
Faithfully Yours,
Jas Cheeseman
