Yesterday saw deer several times
One herd of seven panicked from a cornfield
Across a hay field to woodland.
The A.T. in the southern New York
has been strenuous and often dangerous
Over many rocky promontories topped
by brush, not serving as viewpoints
This series of up and own down climbs
Is not friendly to backpackers.

In Harriman state park it is differen
The woodland is open with mature trees
The trail is original as laid out
by Maj. welsh, Benton MacKaye and others
And approved and measured by Myron A.
It is not easy nor has it been
relocated to make it difficult and dangerous
Viewpoints are reached by climbs as needed
