Fossil wood occurs in the beach some of it with teredo borings which suggests that the fossil wood formed here was drifted on. [[strikethrough]] sunk [[/strikethrough]] while the land was sinking just previous to the deposition of the marine tertiary sandstones.
Obtain some living Volutharpa ampullacea - on the muddy gravel under large stones on Round Island. 
All the young ones had opercula the adults had or had not indifferently. The animal seemed unable to withdraw itself wholly within the shell. The
