Aug 21.  Slept poorly in train arrived at Yonkers about 6:40 had to wait for motor car. [[strikethrough]] firs [[/strikethrough]] Spent part of morning in laboratory with Dr. [[underlined]] Hamlin [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] Lawrence [[/underlined]] revising their work.  Gave consent to [[underlined]] Rossi [[/underlined]] to adopt reinforced concrete and [[strikethrough]] 50 feet [[/strikethrough]] 50 feet width for new building Right foot fourth toe is bothering me same way with ingrowing nail as left foot some two or three months ago and makes walking difficult Took refreshing nap after lunch.  Cold bright weather
Aug 22.  Cool weather.  Drove with motor car to N.Y with Celine & Nina.  Went to office. to talk with [[underlined]] May Hasslacher[[underlined]] gone.  Everything [[underlined]]has the usual slowness of

vacation period. [[/underlined]] Drove to Brooklyn to inspect progress of [[underlined]] lactone [[/underlined]] acid experiments.  Found [[underlined]] Peters [[/underlined]] Paulus and [[underlined]] Waldenberger [[/underlined]] all in hopeful mood since the converter has shown them 65% by using monel metal or other metal [[cathode??] both sides.  (charge 2 hours) Drove to Chemists Club.  There waited for Celine and Nina and drove home together.  Nice & cool
Aug 23.  In trying to crank Buick car motor kicked back and hurt my wrist.  After dinner went out alone for long drive with Buick Motor Botanical Garden City Island, Hunters Island, Mamaroneck. Ossining and home. 74 miles. went about 1 gallon per 18 miles.  Nice & cool
Aug 24.  Spent Sunday reading Germany and the Germans by Price Collier.  Nice & cool.  [[underlined]] Celine, Nina  and Dorothy [[/underlined]] off
