46 May 19. Slept nervously and had to drive up early to City Magistrate Judge Marsh who was very decent but [[red underline]] fined me $25 just the [[/red underline]] same as the others who had been arrested. A crowded court room, italians, jews and irishmen and women forming the majority. Home all day. Some rest in afternoon. May 20. [[red underline]] Doremus [[/red underline]] telephones he thinks lecture good and has no improvements to suggest except some minor corrections. Afternoon Celine and myself drove to N.Y with Albert in big car. I went to Select Doctors gown and cap. for [[red underline]] Columbia University [[/red underline]] celebration. Then went to fetch Dr. Chas. [[red underline]] Doremus [[/red underline]] [[end page]] [[start page]] 47 and his wife for supper at Snug Rock. [[red underline]] Doremus showed us formation of aluminum nitride by setting fire to a mixture of aluminum powder [[/red underline]] and lamp black May 21. Here all day - Miss Evans started writing final copy of lecture. Towards dusk Celine, and Nina and I went all out in [[strikethrough]] small [[/strikethrough]] ^[[new]] Buick along Riverdale roads then thru Cortland, while [[red underline]] George is studying hard at his exam. [[/red underline]] May 22. Spent most of day rereading copy of lecture and carried one to [[red underline]] Dr. Alexander Smith [[/red underline]] Feel more restful now. May 23. Got thru belated mail then came here for lunch [[red underline]] Drs.
