In 1910 I began purchasing seed from W. Atlee Burpee Co., receiving a collection of sweet pea seed. The loveliness of these in June of that year, coming at a time when our first child was born, filled me with a sentiment for flowers. Since then I have bought garden seed as well as flower seed from BURPEE.

My original purchase [[underlined]] planted [[/underlined]] in me an interest in plant life, which interest has assumed to a preponderance of preference for home rather than for recreations away. This desire to give attention to seed planting developed into fruit growing as well, and where, five years ago, stood eight locust trees, now grow many fruit trees and grape vines, checkered beneath which, here and there, are beds of flowers and vegetables. And with all of this our lawn in the rear is as perfect as the lawn in front.

I am rather proud of it all, because it is entirely of my own handiwork. Indeed,

Little seeds from Burpee;
Little plants as well,
Make a lovely garden
And a pretty dell.
