a hurried but good lunch, and then in two nice compartements to our selves.  Started now really for Paris.  The train only stops at Amiens, so we had no delay in that way.

We arrived at Paris at quarter to eight, and went to Hotel Bristol where we were soon shown to our rooms, and then had a very good dinner.  We were hardly through this when Mr. and Mrs. Leroy came in and I retired tired enough for the night.

May 21st 1890. Wednesday.

Paris greets us with a smile, she had put on her gay dress for us (expres[[^s]]ly) before she only  showed her dark side, but now, in our honor she appears bright and happy.

I took a walk with the boys and Fraulein this morning, and indeed Paris does look happy.  It always has an attraction for me, now as much as ever.  Adele and Emile Sloane came in to see me.  They are just the same do not seem to have grown or changed in the least.
