we soon left the carriages and came home.
Yesterday we expected to drive to the farm and take lunch there with Sybil and the little Lorillards, but it rained so hard it was impossible to go, so instead we cooked our own dinner in the cottage. I had sent word to Sybil to come, but did not mention that we were going to cook, so she appeared in a silk dress. 
I emediately marched her over to the house and made her put on one of my white dresses. It was very amusing and with a good deal of Maᵥ[[insertion]]r[[/insertion]]tha's help we cooked a most delicious lunch. Sybil afterwards drove with me, and we met quite a number of

people on the avenue. That dreadful Bertie Hunt was standing on the sidewalk with another little boy. I bowed. When we came back he looked strait at me with a bold (live) look and took of his hat to the ground. 
In the night we had the most awful thunder storm. I was awakened by a loud peal of thunder, and after that it kept up insessently. Papa glidded into my room to close the window, and for some time I lay awake thinking of people I knew etc.
Sybil called for me this afternoon and we took our walk together. We met Harry T. & Archie L. walking together. And No & Bill.  C. was on the piazza of the
