June 2nd. 1890. Monday.

Aunt Emmie had kindly invited me to go on the coach to St. Germain with her, and as Mama accepted for me, I went.
The drive is through the bois at first, and the narrow road are shady and lovely. Once out of Paris, it seems quite in the country and the view all around is lovely. Our party occupied the whole coach, so we did not need to have any strangers. The driver was an American, which made it very nice for Aunt Emmie who sat on the box seat. As the drive is only 13 miles, and take 1 1/2 hours we only changed horses

once. The whole drive is lovely, and you pass through a grove many picturesque little villages, with old houses surrounded by gardens. We arrived at the Pavillion hotel at St. Germain at about half past twelve. It is situated on a terrace high above the surrounding country and so gives you a beautiful view of Paris and the "environs". After lunch we took a long drive through the forest which is large and beautiful. When we returned we had a short time before leaving to walk about and see the little stands, the theatre shows, the wooden horses, and lots of other little amusing things. The drive back
