Franklin went away this evening to Berlin, after having left me at Pauline's for dinner. We had dinner alone, her governess and we two. I enjoyed it very much, that is the whole evening. I am afraid I will not see P. for a good while as she expects to stay abroad with her governess alone for two years, while the rest of the family will spend the summer in Newport. The governess is very nice and makes a very interesting conversation; we talked about the fine pictures and other articles which belonged to Grandpa and now to Grandma. things, I knew of course they were very expensive etc. but I hardly thought them such as she said.
June 9th. 1890 Monday.
We must leave Paris! I am sad, yes I did feel as badly as though it was my native city. Then perhaps the thought of London added to my sadness. But we left of course as we expected by the 11.30 train. We had the same compartments as before, and crossed in the "Victoria". I promenaded
