red rust-brown below. He was singing in the cherry tree + walnut tree.
The [[underlined]] summer tanager [[/underlined]] (. [[?]] ) was singing in the big wild cherry tree this evening. He was pinkish-red all over, with darker red head + rump. He is the same bird I saw in the pines April 21. [[slash, image or letter in margin]] I also saw what seemed to be a myrtle warbler in the garden, running on the ground + then in the locust tree. He looked the same as the bird that puzzled me Sun., May 5.
A [[underlined]] yellow-billed cuckoo [[/underlined]] was eating caterpillars in the locust tree. The orioles were busy at this too. I feel better on seeing these friends. 
A flock of myrtle warblers was on the lot.
May 9, Thursday.

[[/strikethrough]] [[/in margin]] About 2 dozen ^ [[insertion]] thrushes [[/insertion]] in pines on way [[note - with arrow pointing to this]] [Veeries - July 12, 1929] [[/note - with arrow pointing to this]] to road. They were a little larger than Eng. sparrows, but rather plump.

[[in margin]] [[strikethrough]] ? [[/strikethrough]] [[/in margin]] They were red brown on the back, buffy-gray underneath. Darker buff wash on throat. Eyes big and dark.

Pair of little warblers at Snyder's. They flashed into the pines + I couldn't get a look at them but they seemed Maryland Yellow-throats.

Many black warblers were in the trees around the pond. The head, back, chin, throat + upper breast were jet, shiny black. In some lights the head + upper back appeared very deep, dark blue. A Conspicuous, somewhat egg-shaped white spot was on the wing. The under-parts, below the black vest, were snow white. "Zher - zher - zher - wee, wee, weet", a sweet song, was constantly repeated by many little throats. They hunted diligently thru the sycamore + other trees in the marsh. The description of the
