November 1862.
[[underlined]] Thursday 27.[[/underlined]] We were invited to dine at brother Georges today, the roads not very good & the wind rather cold we concluded not to go, Mrs. Peale & Louisia went to church and left me to take care of Fanny. I painted the greater part of the day on N 85. The men finished the drain in the meadow near the house.

[[underlined]] Friday 28.[[/underlined]] Killed five large hogs and a cow will [[have ?]] them cut up tomorrow. Had a carpenter to repair the roof which leaked very much He made a door fron the tenant house &c. I prepared sweetmarjam for the sausages &c.

[[underlined]] Saturday 29. [[/underlined]] It has been snowing all day and too dark for me to paint. The butcher and all hads were engaged with the meat packed & salted it and made Pudding meat and sausages &c. The carpenter finishd at the tenants house and fitted a door to our kitchen instead of the old one, made a forme for the stove plate of zinc &c.
[[strikethrough]] Dani[[/strikethrough]] George and two lads thrashed this morning with the machine and stowed away the straw for bedding.

[[underlined]] Sunday 30. [[/underlined]] Mrs. Peale and I intended going to Potte. for Mary and when we were ready we found that the horses were all put out in the field and the man was not here, and soon the clouds gathered and become unpleasant the roads are very muddy, we had no company today.

[[double underlined]] Monday December 1st. 1862.[[/double underlined]] Another dark day preventing any painting. Took down the pictures from the hall and fixed the zinc on the form for the stove.

[[underlined]] Tuesday 2.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 85. put a lock and hinges on a chest for Louisia, Edward has finished pressing the hay near Orwigsbung today. They are cleaning the wheat & thrashing all day. Mrs. Peale and Louisia went this afternoon to S. Haven for Mary, she left Potte. yesterday afternoon and lodged at Mrs. Levans. Georges wife has been all day preparing the lard and tallow.
