This evening there is an uncommon appearance of the Auroraboriallis it differs from any that I ever saw before, the evening is perfectly calm, clear except a horizontal cloud along the northern horizon and above it a luminous atmosphere from which flashes of light in patches would pass over head or sometimes would appear as a cloud for an instant and at other times would form perpendicutur colums and remain for a few minutes and gradually move to the westward, but the flash would sometimes take place nearly overhead at half past 8 it all dissapeared except a luminous appearance from east to west and it become very foggy. Mary went to church this morning alone.
