December 1862 & Jan. 1863
[[underlined]] Tuesday 30 [[/underlined]]. I painted all day on N. 77 and 76. Mr. Wolf sat this morning to Mary. She went to S. Haven this afternoon to see her sitters, they are all engaged until the first of the month.
30°. calm white frost clo 1 s e. 44° s e clo 10 e. commenced to rain about 6 oclock 37° calm rain.
[[underlined]] Wednesday 31. [[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the day on N. 76 and N. 77, fixed Marys window curtains &c.
Edward sent a carrload of Bailed Hay to Ashland this afternoon.
It has been snowing most of the day but the ground being wet with last evenings rain much of it melted.
32° n e snow all night. 38" calm snow. 30° calm nearly clear.
[[underlined]] Thursday January 1st 1863. [[underlined]] I painted all day on N. 76, 77 and 85. Mrs. Peale & Louisia went this afternoon to S. Haven, returned by dusk. We have had no company all day. 18° calm w clear. 37° calm w clear. 19° calm, clear.
[[underlined]] Friday 2d. [[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 85 and 86. I was quite interested this morning in viewing the appearance of the trees, bushes and in fact everything being covered with with a white frost which sparkled in the sunshing and after breakfast observed quite a fall of snow almost making the bare ground white, although the skey was cloudless, the moisture of the earth rising was condenced & converted into flakes of snow.
2° calm, white frost covering every spray with ice. clear, 33° calm clear. 24° calm e clear.
[[underlined]] Saturday 3. [[/underlined]] I painted all the afternoon on N. 86. Mary begun a portrait this morning of Miss Bast the sister of the one that sat last week.
Edward and Louisia eat their breakfast before daylight as he had business at St. Clair and expected to go to Reading he left Louisia a Mr. B. Pott's and found that he could transact the buisness in Potte. without going to Reading, they came home to dinner. He then went to Maiden Creak & returned late this evening.
5°. calm clear. white frost as yesterday covering everything with a coat of ice. 32° calm clear. 21° calm clear.
[[underlined]] Sunday 4. [[/underlined]] Edward and Louisia started for church and found they were too late, they therefore returned. The roads are very bad, we had no company today.
