18    Aug. 1862
[[underlined]] Thursday 14.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N.[[strikethrough]] 79 [[/strikethrough]] 80
[[underlined]] Friday 15.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 80. having rained a little last night it cooled the air a little. Revd. Mr. Helphinstin called to see me he was located in Baltimore while I lived there
[[underlined]] Saturday 16. [[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the day on N. 80. in the afternoon I sketched an Eagle in black & white craon, he wants our cutout of board to be used on various occasions of public meetings and speakings &c. In the evening we all went to hear the celebrated Professor A. McCoy of Washington deliver on the great southern Rebellion. A platform was made in front of the Bank and a display of flags, wreaths &c were tastefully blaced behind the speaker two round tables one on each side of the stage with lamps on them and in the large windows our family circle & friends were in the Banking Room and as my hearing is bad Charles placed me near the door; but the night being very cold I was chilled through. The audiance were very attentive and remarcably quiet and expressed much pleasure, by their clapping and laughter during his address. He is remarcably energettic and inthusiastic with much action, he begun with the Union of the U.S.A. &c &c, kept us until 11 oclock. As I came home I observed a brilliant Aurora boreallis to the north, but didnot stop to see its progress.
[[underlined]]Sunday 17.[[/underlined]] nothing particularly today.
[[underlined]]Monday 18.[[/underlined]] Charles & Harriet, Mrs. Peale and I went to Mr. Hackel's farm this afternoon, we had a most charming ride about 4 miles distance. the cenery below or west of the Big Mountain at Shamoken is very fine and from one of his fields it is magnificent, the Sunbury Railroad winding around the mountains. the day was pleasant and cool. I painted until about 3 oclock on N. 79.
[[underlined]] Tuesday 19. [[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 80. The day is cool and pleasant.
[[underlined]] Wednesday 20. [[/underlined]] I finished this morning N. 79. except varnishing, while I was painting it, Mr. Pollock came to see me and seemed much pleased, he told me that the picture of
