March 21st. 1863.
ten days leave of absence from the signal core near Fortess Monroe. he has become quite stout and appears to be in good health; he boards in a secession family. he learned just as he left Potte. that sister Sharlot Thompson was dead, but couldnot give any particulars of her death.
[[left margin note]] calfs [[/margin note]] The Brindle cow dropped two calves this morning, they appear to be doing well.
[[dashed underline]] Mary White[[/underlined]] went to Potte. at noon today.

[[underlined]] Sunday 22d.[[/underlined]] Mrs. Peale and Mary went in the buggy to Potte. this morning to learn something about her sisters death and when the funeral takes place &c. They have not yet returned, possibly Mrs. Peale may go to Marietta in the morning. 
We have had no visitors today. The snow is passing away very fast today but no wind to dry the roads.

[[underlined]] Monday 23d.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 89.
Edward put Topsey to the spring wagon and drover her, she was very jentle and kind, then he put her in the sulkey. 
Mrs. Peale and Mary came home from Potte. this evening, Brother Burd thought she had better not go to Marietta. brother George & Lydia went, the corps was to be sent to Juniatta to be interred there tomorrow.

Mary had no sitter today, she therefore retouched J. Pattersons fruit piece for me.
Edward went this morning to Potte. got back this evening.

[[underlined]] Wednesday 25.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 89. as mary was engaged all day in housekeeping.

[[underlined]] Thursday 26.[[/underlined]] I made a stretcher for Joseph's fruit piece the other not being well made. I painted the remainder of the day on N. 89.
[[dashed underline]] Mary White [[/underlined]] came home this afternoon. 
Edward Hubley came from Reading this day at noon.
