Aug. 31. 1863.
Allen Fisher called this morning to see Edward, his sister accompanied him.

[[double underlined]] Tuesday September 1st. 1863.[[/underlined]] I worked all the morning in the garden, hoed all the Celery, then brought the surface earth from the plants, strewed manure along the plants, then covered it with the earth that was removed, having first removed all the dead & rusty leaves, and grass & weeds, then gave it a good watering.
Mrs. Peale, Sarah Levan & Mr. James Levan went to the River and brought back a tub full of Elderberries to make wine with. Lear & Mrs. Try also brought some.
I painted a part of the afternoon on a picture that was one of my early attempts, 2 large Apples on a plate. Albert found it among the rubbish in the garret & got me to retouch it for him.
Edward went this afternoon up Long Run and returned late this evening. The papers are very silent about Charlestown.

[[underlined]] Wednesday 2d.[[/underlined]] I was all the morning fixing the curtains of the old Carriage, and this afternoon Albert & I sugered 24 galls of juice from the Elderberries for wine. Geo. took 2 loads of bailed Hay to A. Fisher's min to S.H. one load of Phosphate from the Landing this afternoon and plowed all the morning in the orchard.

[[underlined]] Thursday 3.[[/underlined]] I worked a good part of the day in the garden. prepared stuff for the gate in to it.
Mrs. Peale, Harriet Albert and Clara went this morning to Potte. & left Clarra there. got home before night.
Miss Sarah Levan came this morning with her nephews to press the Elderberries that she collected yesterday, she dined with us.
Geo. took a load of baled hay to S. Haven
The 2 Wormcassels have been baling Hay all day from the Mule house. Got up Strawberry plants for Geo Diebert.

[[underlined]] Friday 4.[[/underlined]] I have worked all day assisted by Albert set a post, made a gate & hung it leading to the upper part of my garden, removed many weeds near the fence &c.
