June 1863.
[[underlined]] Saturday [[/underlined]] [["26th" overwritten on "this"]] Mrs. Peale and I went to see Howerd Peale and set for a Photagraph, then went to the Academy with Clara, and then to Mrs. Thorps who was very pressing for us to stay and dine with them, Clara and I went to James Peales, and spent the afternoon took tea there  Harry and wife came in, Mrs. Peale joined us, having dined at Mr. Tathams and then returned there to meet Mary.
Mary came home at 6 oclock and with her mother came home; she looks well and enjoyed her trip very much.
[[underlined]] Sunday 27.[[/underlined]] Spent the greater part of the day in reading and conversing and called at Colemans in the evening. 
The report this evening is that the Rebels are near [[?]] and fighting going on about 4 miles from the town & that we have about 50 thousand there to apose them.
[[underlined]] Monday 28.[[/underlined]] Packed up our things, and took the carrs for home at 3 oclock. found in the Carrs several from Columbia Pa. who were flying from the Rebels, they last night threw shells into Columbia, but did no injury to the town, but drove many families away these passengers were a family, the mother 77 years of age and very feeble. they were intending to go to Almira but she couldnot go further than Leesport. I found our family all well and glad to see us. Mary came with us, she had intended staying longer in Phila. the news from Chambersburg made her too uneasy to remain behind, sent a boy to let Edd. know that we had arrived, Miss Louisia Hazes came with us, her family all left Lancaster this morning, she saw the long bridge on fire, it was burned by our people to prevent the Rebells comeing across the susquehanna at that point.  ___. ___. 68°. calm s e clo 2 s e.
[[underlined]] Tuesday [[superimposed 2 over 3]] 9th.[[/underlined]] Unpacked my painting apporatus & trunk &c. and fixed the plants brought from Chisnut Hill and Holmesburg ready to plant out. I then commenced cleaning up around the house, had Mrs. Try to pull up the weeds and how, I then commenced to clean and dress up the flowers in the potts &c.
Edward & Ann Elizabeth Hubley came from Reading in the morning train. Mr. & Mrs. Hubley came in their carriage got here about sunset.
The report today is that Genl. Pleasenton had captured a large number of Rebell wagons.
