[[underlined]] Tuesday 29.[[/underlined]] I painted a part of the morning on No. 96. assisted in fixing the carpet &c.
after dinner James, Matilda and several of their children came. Edward went early this morning to Mocanoy City, expects to return tomorrow.
36°. calm, mist. 43°. calm clo 9. 36°. calm, clo 9 w.
[[underlined]] Wednesday 30.[[/underlined]] I painted a good part of the morning on No. 96, chiefly on the background. Mrs. Graeff sat this morning to Mary. Eddy Patterson & his friend came this morning to gun shot a female Plheasant & nothing else.
Theadore and Emma Patterson came soon after, they all spent the day here, dined at Edwards. Mary took Mrs. Shannan's Portrait home. the men are still baling Hay.
May got a letter from Burd, he says he is improving in helth. but May is quite unwell and he is scearcely able to nurse her, & must get a nurse for her, if she continus unwell.
Theadore Patterson looks well has increased in flesh and is quite a Man. he is to return on Monday next to Fortress Monroe. Ed. returned late this evening.

[[underlined]] Thursday 31.[[/underline]] I painted a part of the morning on N. 96, Mended a number of articles for Louisia, viz. Boiler, Coffee Pot and Tin pan &c, finished the lock for Marys Studio stopping up the holes of the old lock &c.
After dinner Edward Louisia & Mary went to Potte. supped at brother George's & left Mary, they got home about 8 oclock. it had just stopped snowing and begun to rain as they got home.

[[triple underlined]] Friday January 1st. 1864.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N 96. The day has been very uncomfortable, a high wind from the north west made it difficult to keep warm.

[[underlined]] Saturday 2d.[[/underlined]] I did intend to paint on the partridge N 96 but found the room so cold that I couldnot paint. I suffered so much last evening with the cold wind, that Mrs. Peale wouldnot consint to my going to the room to fix the fire, I had left the stove red hot at tea time, but more coal should have been put in at bedtime, the consequenc is that many of the plants are killed, water froose in the middle of the room during the night. I mounted Mr. & Mrs. Hubley's Photographs for Louisia & hung them up in her parlour.
