[[underlined]] Thursday 30.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N. 103. Mrs. Peale had a good night and is better today than yesterday.
Louesia got her piano this morning from Philadelphia it is quite plain but beautifully finished $500. and a good toned instrument.
This afternoon Mr Graeff brought down Redd. Mr. Lewis who brought two small Landscapes painted by his brother, views on the Tumbling Run, they are very beautifully painted. 
I wed this afternoon the onion bed & hoed the beans.
68°. calm s w clo 2 w. 70°. smart shower s w. 70°. calm, clo 10 with lightning.
[[double underlined]] Friday July 1st. 1864. [[/double underlined]] Mrs. Peale is much better today, although she had pain in her side last night.
I painted the greater part of the day on N. 103 & 104. 
Joseph Patterson and his partnner Mr. Conner came this afternoon. Mr. C. wanted to look at my pictures. 
[[left margin note]] hot [[/margin note]] 68°. calm s w fog. rain in the night. 91°. s w clo 5 w. 73°. calm it com[[superscript]] d [[/superscript]]. to rain about 4 oclock & continued ever since with thunder & lightning.
[[underlined]] Saturday 2d.[[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the morning on N. 102. and worked in the garden in the afternoon wed the parsnips and beets &c. 
Mrs. Peale is much better today.
70°. calm rain. 79°. calm rain. 79°. w. clear.
[[underlined]] Sunday 3. [[/underlined]] Mrs. Peale slept all night and has been much better all day, she walked to the windows and sat in the rocking-chair for some time. 
James Patterson & 2 children came this morning and dined with us. Mr & Mrs. Innis came this afternoon to see Mrs. P. she returned from N. York yesterday. I have just learned of the death of Howard Peale, he was out in his yatch and a squall upset it all all on board were drowned. I have not seen the particulars yet.

[[underlined]] Monday 4[[superscript]][[underlined]]th[[/underlined]][[/superscript]] [[/underlined]] This morning I prepared Celery for pricking out (trimming off a part of the tops and the thin ends of the roots and coating the roots in a mixture of earth Cow dung and water) and toward night pricked them out gave the largest plants to Louesia for trenches.
