August 3. 1864
Burd sent up yesterday from Holmesburg by the Express. I think it is the [[underlined]] sweet-water Grapes. [[/underlined]] I worked all the morning in the garden principally in weeding, transplanting beets &c the ground being in good condition. 
It rained nearly all night, a smart shower this morning, and another heavey rain this afternoon with intermediate showers.  74°. calm, mist. 82°. s w, calm clo s w 75°. calm s w clo 9 s w.
[[underlined]] Thursday 4th. [[/underlined]] I painted a good part of the day on N. 103.
Mrs. Peale had a good night and is better today, but kept her bed.
This afternoon Mrs. Morris, Robert & sister and A Fisher called. We had several showers of rain today, the ground quite wet. 
70°. calm, clo 10 w. 77°. calm w clo 9 w. 70°. calm e, clo 2 w.
[[underlined]] Friday 5.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N 102 & 103 and attempted to dig a small bed for Lettuce but was so much overcome that I had to quit, didnot get over it for one or two hours.
Mrs. Peale is much the same as yesterday.
Eddy Patterson spent the day with us. 
Jacob commenced diggin the trench for the waterpipes this morning. George took a load of baled hay to St. Clair and brought back coal, a part for E. and us. 
Edd. got a barrel of Roman cement for the waterpipes

[[underlined]] Saturday 6.[[/underlined]]  I painted all the morning on N. 103.  Mrs. Peale had a good night and been very comfortable all day, a little uneasiness this evening in her right side.  Dr. Shannan brought Mr. Laylor this evening he played a number of fine pieces on the piano, he plays with great exectution.
Albert dug a small bed and I sowed on it, some Endive, Lettuce & Turnips, he also dug a trench for Celery.

[[underlined]] Sunday 7.[[/underlined]]  Mrs. Peale slept until 3 oclock, has not been so well all day, but this afternoon has much improved and is very comfortable this evening.
We have had no visitors today.

[[underlined]] Monday 8.[[/underlined]]  Mrs. Peale is much better today, slept until 4, has been chearful all day.
Mrs. Pott & Miss Vastine came this afternoon.
