[[underlined]] Sunday 7.[[/underlined]] I have had a quiet day. The roads are very muddy and of course we had no company, a cold west wind made it unpleasant to be out of doors. I have been reading the life and letters of Washington Erving most of the day. he is a very agreable writer.

[[underlined]] Monday 8.[[/underlined]] I painted most of the day on N 98. and retouched 3 Apples & a watermellon on zinc. 
James & Matilda Patterson Mr. Und Miss Underhill came this afternoon, they are from N. york he is stationed in Potte. encamped. Edward sent to Potte. the 1st load of straw S of his contract U S.

[[underlined]] Tuesday 9.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 98. 
29°. n w, clo 9 n w. 33°. n w, clo 5. n w. 28°. n w. clear.
[[underlined]] Wednesday 10.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N. 97 and in the afternoon on N. 98.
19°. calm, clo 2 w. 28° n w spit of snow. 18° calm w, clear.
   [[underlined]] Thursday 11 [[second 1 superimposed over 0]]. [[/underlined]] I painted all day on N.97 & 98. Mrs. Peale got me some fresh Laural branches for me to retouch and make a finish of the Pheasant piece, it has been in hand much longer than I had intended to give it. got a letter from Mary dated 9th. inst. saying that she went to Homesburg and found May very sick, she stayed till Monday with her and will return to be with her, that she fears May will go into a decline.

[[underlined]] Friday 12.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 97 & 98 which I finished this morning. 
  Edward took A. E. Hubley to Potte. this morning, she will stay until monday next. got a letter from Anna Peale. 
They sent up 4 loads & 2 yesterday U. S. 
Mrs. Peale is still unwell. 
17°. calm, clo 10 s w. 45°. w, clo 6 w. 32° calm, clear.
  [[underlined]] Saturday 13.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 97. principally on the young ones and the female &c
 Edward went this afternoon to Jimmy Downings auction bought hay ladders articles sold very low.
Sent hay to Potte. U S. and also to Mackanoy City. 
Mrs. Peale is much better today.
