Sir,

With this I transmit the official
notice of ^[[thanks for]] a present from Mr Schoolcraft.

The various notices in the [[underscore]] envelope[[/underscore]] prove that the Institute has
not been deficient in [[underscore]]decorum[[/underscore]].

I have been informed that Mr. 
[[underscore]]Schoolcraft[[/underscore]] is attached
to the family of [[underscore]]Governor Cass[[/underscore]],
now employed in the scientific exploration of the South + West Boundaries of the Great Lakes.._ I will
thank you to [[underscore]]preserve the Letter with
its envelope[[/underscore]] .- It may reach him
by next Christmas .- or earlier.

The polite notice from
Mr [[underscore]]Elgar[[/underscore]] will, of course, claim the Attention of the Institute_
