I Have received the most Gratifying Communication By Which I Know that the Columbian Institute for the promotion of Arts and Sciences Have Been pleased to elect me one of their Members.

it is with much regret that I find myself prevented By an engagement in the Country from presenting in person On this day my Respectful Acknowledgemens to the Members of the Institute. My friend Mr. Quincy Adams Has promised me to offer the Expression of my Gratitude which at the Same time I Have the Honor to Adress to you Sir With the [[Personal?]] Assurance of My Very High Regard
