The gray shades into the yellow, but change takes place in a few inches. Collected fossils. 

The yellow loess is sandier. It shows usual loess cleavage. The gray is harder and here does not show cleavage in dry exposed parts. At the east end of (x) there seems to be a little silt on slope between yellow and gray loesses,

about 10 ft. above the flat. It is thin, and runs out above (?).

I went on to cut (c) where I spent much time in picking up shells. They are chiefly from a sandy pocket or layer, show in the figure.
