Not a good day for painting Wrote some letters. After lunch I went over to the Rue Lafitte to Durand Ruel [[strikethrough]]& [[/strikethrough]] found, well before I got out I had a regular jag on Monet, Sisley and a [[underlined]] room full [[/underlined]] of Degas drawings, pastels and drawings
The Monet of his wife, done in 1866 is a corker. She is against a dark brown background, has a dark velvet coat with fur around the bottom and at the cuffs. Her skirt is black and green striped silk, her hat has a changable colored bird on it and she is putting on a yellow or orange glove. The face is in profile. That skirt would move you to tears its so fine.

Went over again with Miss Sargent to see the Degas and spent the whole morning there One of a ballet girl against a studio window, with the dark edge of a mirror and some blue curtains to the right light sliding in across the floor and the buildings out behind, all on a grey day is one of the handsomest things I ever saw. The figure against the window is wonderful and it looks as though it had happened its done so easily. Then there was one of four ballet girls ^[[two]] in yellow and ^[[two]] pink avec a background of greens and over the the gowns many little highlights. the movement and drawing of the figures is fine, beautiful.
Went this P.M. to see Bement's aunt Mrs. Miller at 32 Ave. Henri Martin. Got a nice apartement and she is very nice [[underlined]] Her [[/underlined]] friend the French count was up there also.
